LifePLUS: A New Social Group for Young HIV+ Guys in Vermont
on Friday, 15 February 2019.
Living with HIV in Vermont has unique challenges. While we are blessed with excellent healthcare resources and medication access compared to most of the country, we also live in a state where fewer than 1000 people are living with the virus. Social isolation and HIV stigma have become two of the biggest hurdles poz people face on a daily basis.
GLAM, PCVT’s HIV prevention program for gay/bi/trans men ages 18-35, is working to take these challenges head-on for the portion of the LGBTQ+ spectrum that they service. This month, GLAM is launching “LifePLUS”, a confidential online forum for young men who have been recently been diagnosed, and/or are living with HIV in Vermont.
The mission of this new group is to fight stigma, create community, and find support in one another as we navigate full lives, healthcare needs and dating after being diagnosed with HIV. LifePLUS will also be a resource for education, medication adherence tips, and other ways we can maintain great health and undetectable HIV status in order to prevent the spread of HIV and identify barriers to healthcare access.
