TRANS-AFFIRMATIVE MEDICAL PROVIDERS
The following information was collected from recommendations from medical institutions and community members and through conversations with providers. This list is only to serve as a useful tool for finding trans-friendly providers - we encourage individuals seeking health care to interview practitioners carefully before choosing any providers to ensure that they are a good fit. Please let us know about your experiences with these providers by calling Pride Center of Vermont at (802) 860-7812 or contacting PCVT staff at email@example.com
Another important resource is the Vermont Diversity Health Project (available here) which is an online database that allows clients to seek out LGBT-affirmative healthcare providers. Individuals can search the database, where over 50 LGBT-affirmative providers are listed. Providers who are trans-friendly and interested in having their information included on this partial list, or on the VDHP list can contact PCVT at (802) 860-7812, or email Mike at firstname.lastname@example.org. Creating a profile is quick and easy and can be done over the phone or online.
To find out if a provider is in your insurance plan's network, you can contact that provider directly or call your insurance company. If you are on Medicaid, you can also go to http://www.vtmedicaid.com/secure/providerLookUp.do to look up a provider. If you are on Medicaid and would like a specific provider (especially surgeons as there is only one surgeon in the state that performs chest surgery and one that performs hysterectomies/oophorectomies), you can contact that provider and ask them if they would be willing to contact Green Mountain Care staff at 1-800-250-8427 to join the Vermont Medicaid network.
