Many of you may have participated in a comprehensive health needs assesment last year conducted in collaboration with LGBTQ HealthLink. This survey was conducted to assess the prevalence of tobacco use, other chronic disease risk behaviors, and determinants of health in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities of Vermont — the catchment area of the Pride Center of Vermont. The results were presented to the community in June. In addition to the presentation, we wanted to make the results available to the community in an online format.

Pride Center of Vermont's Health & Wellness program works to assess and respond to health disparities within the broader LGBTQ+ community through educational programming, social-support groups, biomedical diagnostics, and increased access to affirming medical providers. A major focus of our current work is HIV testing and prevention as well as tobacco cessation for people who are affected at a disparate rate. We are working towards developing more resources for community members impacted by substance use. We address overall health and wellness by offering yoga classes, a weekly running group, and an annual 5k run. The Health and Wellness team is a small but nimble group of dedicated staff, volunteers, and interns that work towards building a strong, healthy, thriving community.
