Sean Dorsey Dance: The Missing Generation
“Dorsey has made an art of bringing to life the hidden and lost stories of the LGBTQ community with poignancy, humor, and passion.” —SF Gate
The AIDS epidemic devasted the LGBTQ community in the 1980s and ‘90s, leaving vacancy. With The Missing Generation, choreographer Sean Dorsey distills 75 hours of interviews with survivors into a moving series of dance-theater vignettes. Representation of the transgender community’s own struggles during this period is original to Dorsey’s piece. While The Missing Generation is about the LGBTQ community, Dorsey projects his message to a broader audience as an invitation to reflect on past biases and identify lingering ones.
On the day of show, this performance will operate with a “pay what you can” system to ensure all Vermonters have the opportunity to experience The Missing Generation.
